The style of doric was the most basic type of architecture of them all. The top was one of the sturdiest, but it looked all to plain. This style of architecture was used in main land greece and the colonies of southern Itally and Sicily. The shaft was not a perfect vertical rectangle, instead it was slightly angled a each side and often had horizontal and verticle lines splitting the shaft into smaller rectangles. The doric style was used in the temple dedicated to Athena the goddess of wisdom. Located on the Acropolis in Athens.
